Rat Wirral

Rat Wirral

Rat Wirral

Rats are always near by and will use any opportunity to exploit our houses. In this particular case on the Wirral rats have been in the drain and have dug a hole underneath the drain cover and under the flags.

The lower side of the drain cover and hole can be seen on the first photo. The second photo shows how the rats have dug under the flags and over to the edge of the house. Once against the house the rats had dug under an old door lintel and in to the house.

The customer had rats in her cavity walls on a few occasions until she called us to find and remove the problem.

The treatment process is relatively simple now the breach has been found. The flag was raised on house bricks (as seen on the second photo) to provide a baiting point for the rats. After 2 weeks a follow will be carried out. The bait will be eaten and the rats killed.

This is when we will dig along the wall to find the hole the rats are tunnelling too. The hole will be permanently blocked and the problem will be fixed for good.

If you have a problem with rats in Wirral, Liverpool or Warrington please phone us to to help you. We take pride in our work and want to help you solve your problems permanently.

A 2 visit rat treatment costs £85.

A Common Problem in Liverpool and Wirral

Pigeons Liverpool and Wirral

A very common problem in both Liverpool and Wirral is the feral pigeon. On streets close to community hubs and shops pigeons will find roosting and nesting sites.

This picture shows Mike fixing metal proofing spikes to the top of a bay window. The gap between the window and the lower edge of the eave provides a perfect place for pigeons to nest.

They nest in areas such as this as it provides safety and security and is away from the worst of the weather. Before they became a pest species in towns and cities they would roost on cliff faces.  Sites like these are the perfect substitute.

We can provide low cost proofing solutions to any building. Phone us for details and a quote.

Mouse Tamper Proof Boxes

November 18, 2014 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

pest control liverpool bait boxes

Pest Control Liverpool.

We are now moving firmly into the rodent season. The colder nights and less food in the environment are bringing mice and rats scavenging indoors.

This is a photo of tamper resistant mouse boxes with a rodenticide bait inserted on a spike inside each box. Each bait has got a different amount of rodent damage on it, some are almost entirely eaten with only a residue left in the box. This amount of bait eaten indicates much more than just one mouse.

Tamper proof boxes are used to protect children and pets from gaining access to the bait.

Field Mice and Breakback Traps

November 17, 2014 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

Mice can be treated for in many ways. One method is by using break back traps. They have many advantages.

1.) The dead rodent is removed from the property. Sometimes when baits are used the rodent can die in a hard to reach area and cause unpleasant smells.

2.) The type of mouse can be identified which helps in understanding the infestation.

3.) There is no poison left on site so no risk of accidental poisoning or secondary poisoning. Non target species can either eat the bait directly or eat rodents that have died from the poison.

4.) Foods that the mice are eating in a premise can be used as baits.

5.) Traps can be used without bait when the mice have well used runs between their feeding areas.

This is a photo of a field mouse that has been caught today in a customers house. She specified that she didn’t want any poison on site because both her cats and her dog eats mice. The traps were left down for a few days with a small smear of peanut butter on the trap plates. The traps have been left in till next week to ensure there are no more mice. The next step is for her to proof her house to prevent further mouse ingress.

Smelly House Thanks to Mouse

November 16, 2014 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

Pest Control Liverpool.

A customer called me out yesterday for mice in Liverpool. Over the last few weeks she had found mouse droppings in her kitchen and behind the couch. Now she had noticed a funny smell in the bathroom and decided now was the time to call in pest control.

An inspection of the house revelled droppings in the kitchen, lounge, garage, bathroom and roof void. The smell was coming from behind the bath panel. On removal of the panel hundreds of droppings were found but no signs of anything else.

The house had an access point for under the floor boards on the landing. After pulling back the carpet on the landing a mouse hole was found going under the floor boards.

On removal of the boards a mouse nest was found under pipework and a central heating pump. The nest was made of toilet paper dragged in from the bathroom (the pink debris to the side of the pump).

Looking down under the floor boards I could see the cause of the smell. A dead mouse about 3 metres away (difficult to make out on this photo). The dead mouse and nest were removed and replaced with baits to monitor/control any further mice in the house. All other areas were baited also.

Rats Routes

November 14, 2014 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

Pest Control Liverpoolpest control liverpool

This rat had been living in a bungalows roof space. The guy who lives here hadn’t heard the rat but when his daughter and family stayed they could hear it in the roof. A first visit was carried out and bait was placed throughout the roof space. On the second visit I had agreed to plug up the gaps under the tiles which were the suspected ingress route. On getting on the garage roof I find this decent sized rat. He must of been on his way back in to the roof when the poison had finally finished him. The gaps under the tiles and flashing have now been filled preventing any further rats getting in.

Gap in Tiles Lets Squirrels In

November 8, 2014 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

Pest Control Liverpoolpest control liverpool

This large gap in the tiles has created an easy way in for squirrels. They are now happily living inside the roof space. It is important to check your house for any gaps in the tiles or bricks. Even a small gap will provide an entry point for rodents or birds.

Ever heard of the ugly duckling? Well this is the ugly pigeon chick! The only thing is he doesn’t grow up to be beautiful he grows up to be a feral pigeon. IMG_0365After the rainy Monday, the windy Tuesday and the mental busy Wednesday today is the most perfect day for getting up the ladders and getting some bird spikes up. I can see on all the houses around that the birds (both pigeons and seagulls) are starting to nest.
