Bees Liverpool

May 19, 2016 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

Bees Liverpool.

Bumble bees in the last few years have become much more of a common problem for homeowners. They used to be a fairly uncommon call out. A nest under the shed or in an old rodent hole in the bottom of the garden.

Since the repopulation of the tree bee they are now an extremely common concern for owners. The tree bee nests in trees, bird boxes and roof spaces. The latter being the problem. Whilst the nests don’t cause to much of a problem in the house, the threat of stinging insects is always an issue to some folk. Removal and rehoming can be done in some circumstances whilst other times they have to be treated to solve the problem.

At MerseyPest we guarantee we will solve your problem. A bee treatment costs £40. Rehoming is more complex and is priced per job (if even possible). A treatment is carried out using either an extending lance or by ladders and directly applying insecticide to the nest. The insecticide is blown in using a high pressure duster. The dust does not cause any problem to the building.

Honey Bee’s Liverpool

May 18, 2016 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

Liverpool Bees.

Now is the time of massively increased bee activity across the country. Bumble bees are nesting under sheds, tree bees are finding nooks in trees and roofs, and honey bees hives are growing and splitting.

Most of the trees, shrubs, flowers and crops have been pollinated by bees. They are the most important insect when it comes to global pollination by far. They should be protected where possible.

In domestic and commercial properties they can still be a threat to the people who live or work there. They tend to be fairly harmless unless provoked but those with small children or/and animals would rather them be removed.

The picture above shows a honey bee hive in a pub. The upstairs rooms of the pub are also filling with bees regularly.

When bee’s become a nuisance to the property owner we can provide solutions to have them removed.

Phone MERSEYPEST pest control Liverpool to find a solution for your honey bee problem.

Rats Pest Control Liverpool

May 13, 2016 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

In Liverpool rats are one of the most common pests that we are plagued with. There frequency shows how high the population numbers are and how close they are to us at most times. Particularly in Liverpool city centre and in some of the higher population areas.

Any food source left outside can be quickly found by rats. In some areas birds can be fed outside for years without a problem. In others throwing bread out could be the start of an infestation in days.

An obvious way to avoid this kind of infestation is to not feed the birds, don’t keep livestock animals outside and keep all waste well sealed in wheelie bins.

But what if you get them anyway???

Another common place for rats to come from is from the drains. There is plenty of food down the drains which is washed off our plates and in to the drain systems. Rats are quite happy eating this in the sewers.

They are happy at least until its time to breed. When they want to raise a family these drain rats will approach the surface as drier, warmer places can be found. All it takes is an uncapped drain or redundant connection and they can be in to a buildings foundations.

The place we deal with them most is in extensions. A drain will be moved for the new building and the old drain capped with sandbags. This leaves an incredibly easy way in for rats. A few chews on a sandbag at the bottom and it will empty the sand. Then the rat is up the cavity or ducting and in to the extension roof space.

This picture shows the inside of an extension roof space. Rats are coming through an uncapped drain, climbing the ducting and living in the roof. This is the 3rd time its happened in this particular case. The drain needs fixing to shut the door to the rats.

We can fix these problems for you. We can kill the rats and solve your drain issues. Phone us for our permanent solutions on rat control in Liverpool.

Noises from the Roof

November 9, 2015 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

pest control liverpool roof

A customer had heard noises from her roof in the night. In the morning she went in to the roof space to investigate herself.

There was nothing obvious but she was concerned about a vent outlet going through the tiles, so she phoned pest control to get an inspection.

When we got there we pulled back all the insulation and found mouse droppings underneath. We baited around the areas that there was mouse activity.

As the customer was concerned about the vent we went on the roof to check to see if there was a possible ingress point through this vent (squirrels are a big problem in her area). We checked the full roof and found no tiles to be loose and no gaps that squirrels could get through.

A follow will be carried out in 2 weeks to see what takes we get from the mice.

Fruit Fly Spray Liverpool

September 20, 2015 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

fruit fly spray pest control liverpool

Pest Control Liverpool – MerseyPest

A morning spray for fruit fly. Even the smallest drops of spilt liquids can create fruit fly infestations. They are particularly fond of wines, lagers and syrups. Common places in bars for infestation is under the lines. Small amounts of liquids trickle down the line to create drips. The drips form a crust and the flies breed inside the drip.

Early starts are the only way to get this type of job done.

Chemicals can’t be sprayed when staff or customers are in.

One of the Busiest Flea Seasons Ever

September 8, 2015 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

fleas in bowl pest control liverpool

This year has been one of our busiest flea seasons. Everyday we are receiving multiple calls for flea infestations.

If your getting bitten and suspect you may have fleas there is a simple way to monitor your own house.

Get a bowl and fill it with water. Add a couple of drops of washing up liquid. The washing up liquid breaks the surface film of the water.

Now a small heat source needs to be placed in or above the water. A tealight candle works well placed in the middle of the bowl. An alternative is an angle poise lamp positioned to shine on the water.

The heat source will attract fleas over in search of a meal. They will jump in the water and drown.

This method will not remove an entire population from a property but will diagnose the cause of any bites.

Information on our flea treatments cane be found here.

Live Catch Squirrels

September 7, 2015 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

pest control liverpool - merseypest

Squirrels are a nuisance animals in both gardens and in properties themselves. In a garden they pull up bulbs and plants and dig up lawns. In roof spaces they build nests out of the insulation, chew up the wires and make a huge amount of noise in the night time.

They can be removed from internal areas using either bait or live catch cages. In external areas they are best removed using traps as it removes the risks of putting poisons in the garden.

If you want your squirrels removing phone us for details or click here.

Rat Pulled Out of Roof

September 4, 2015 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

pest control liverpool

Rats are fairly large animals to have roaming around your house in the night time. This rat photoed above was nesting in the roof space of a house and then coming out in the nighttime down the external wall and through a hole around a waste pipe to feed in a domestic kitchen.

The poor homeowners thought that they had an intruder in the house due to the noise it made as it fed. Once they had realised it was vermin we were called out to investigate.

We blocked the hole around the waste pipe and baited the roof. It soon took the poisonous bait and on a follow up visit to the house we were able to remove the rat.

Rat control can be fairly simple if you know what to look for. If you need help removing rats from your house please phone us.

Average Size Nest for this time of Year

September 3, 2015 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

pest control liverpool

People often ask if their wasp nest is large compared to others. There are many things that affect nest size.

The most important thing is food availability. With low numbers of prey animals in an area wasps will not do as well as another nest that has an abundance of insect prey.

The nests location also affects how well the wasps will do. A nest in a tree or conifer often will not be as big as a nest in a roof space. The nest in the roof has the advantage of warmth from the house and its insulation.

The nest shown above was a nest that was treated in Northwich yesterday. It is a fairly average nest that would be found in a roof space at this time of year. Some can however be much bigger or much smaller.
