Bedbugs Liverpool and Wirral
Cimex lectularius
Bedbugs are parasitic insects that feed on human blood. Bedbugs are mainly nocturnal and are found normally around the hosts bed. They can be found in other places people frequent for long periods of time. They can be found under sofas and have even been reported living quite happily under seats in cinemas. A bedbugs bite is not normally noticed at the time of the bite but is noticed a few hours later when a small itchy bump appears. Some people do not have any reaction to the bites so the first thing thats noticed is the black spots on sheets and the bedbase. These faecal spots can be found all around the areas the bedbugs rest during the day. Bedbugs hatch from eggs and go through a series of moults before they become adults. After each feed they moult their old skin. After 5 moults (over 5 weeks) the bedbug will become an adult and is capable of reproducing.
Bedbug females can lay 5 eggs a day and up to 500 eggs in its lifetime. The eggs are small, ovoid and milky white. The eggs are cemented in cracks and crevices and are extremely hard to remove just with cleaning methods. The eggs hatch after 10 days and begin looking for their first blood meal. All parts of the bed need to be treated. The bedbase, headboard, mattress and legs. All items of furniture around the bed need to be inspected carefully and treated if any evidence of bedbugs are found (which is normally the case). Common places for bedbugs to be found are behind pictures/mirrors, bedside tables, chairs and cupboards. Treatment of the entire house is sometimes required.
