A customer was having issues with rats entering the front of his shops signage. They were going up inside the stanchions and nesting in the boards at the top. With the signage baited it wasn’t long before the rats ceased being an issue.

Fascia Strips Let Wasps In

A badly fitted bit of fascia stripping has let wasps in. The lower strip breather gaps are to small for a queen wasp to pass through and make a nest. However when it isn’t pushed in properly they can get in. You can see the wasps by the very end gap on the corner (quite hard to make out in the photo). The customer in this instance had blocked the hole with a piece of wood with tacks, gaffered to a 4 metre pole. This didn’t have the desired effect and only made them angry!!

Old Queen New Nest?

So I thought the nest the other day was active…check out this monster in Willaston, Wirral. The nest was almost fully exposed which is fairly unusually for this country. I treated one just as large last year at the same house in mid November when the new owners moved in.

It actually makes it interesting because the nest last year was treated at the end of November when the queen and new queens will have already left to hibernate. This nest could very possibly be the old queen or a new queen from the old nest.

A customers grand kids wanted the sun loungers out in their grans garden. Lucky the shed door was stuck so the gran got them out. As she pulled out the cushions that had been stored at the back a wasp nest fell out from between were they had been folded. The wasps came flying out and she got stung 4 times. A very nasty surprise.

Beetles in Roof

These old mouse bait boxes left in a roof space have been the cause of a considerable problem for the homeowner. They were left 20 years ago after a rodent treatment. For the past few years the owner of the house has experienced small beetles appearing at this time of year.

The larvae of these beetle have been consuming the grain bait and emerging as adult insects to breed. Leaving any food items over a period of time will attract pests.

Wasp Nest in Golf Shoe

June 15, 2014 by MERSEYPEST 84 Comments

A small wasp nest in a golf shoe. The wasps had found the shoe on a shelf in a covered patio area. It had made a good enough home but would soon become too small and the nest would of grown out of the shoe and filled the box.

I’m in full bee suit after a previous call were I was only wearing the top half and gloves and got 2 nasty stings from bumblebees on my legs. Lesson learnt!!

Wasp Season Begins

Wasp season is very much on the way. I’ve treated lots of little nests in garages or sheds but this nest from yesterday had hundreds of active wasps. The wasps are still small (almost half the end season size) but extremely active. This nest was out in Cheshire in Barrow.
