This is a Larsen trap. It is used to control problem magpies. In this case the magpies have been stealing eggs from free range chickens. The trap is baited with eggs and is checked daily both by myself and the customer. The trap has a bowl of drinking water for any magpies that are trapped.

Gap in Tiles Lets Squirrels In

November 8, 2014 by MERSEYPEST 75 Comments

This large gap in the tiles has created an easy way in for squirrels. They are now happily living inside the roof space. It is important to check your house for any gaps in the tiles or bricks. Even a small gap will provide an entry point for rodents or birds.

Starling Nest Site

The corner of this house has become home to a family of starlings. They are a rowdy and noisy neighbour to have. The homeowner wants rid sooner rather than later.

The birds cannot be moved until after the birds/chicks have left the nest. The chicks do fledge quickly but the adults can start another clutch of eggs in the same year. Carefully monitoring of the nest is required to make sure the birds are out before it can be cleaned and proofed to prevent further access/usage.

IMG_0365After the rainy Monday, the windy Tuesday and the mental busy Wednesday today is the most perfect day for getting up the ladders and getting some bird spikes up. I can see on all the houses around that the birds (both pigeons and seagulls) are starting to nest.
