Customer Mouse Picture

Customer Mouse Picture - Pest Control Liverpool

This is a picture took by a customer. It shows his kitchen with a mouse sitting boldly on the worktop.

Its often said to me that the mouse didn’t even move “Bold as brass just staring at me”.

This is because a mouse has very poor eyesight in comparison to ours. A mouse has evolved to live in small spaces and undergrowth where there is no specific benefit to having good eyesight. When a person walks in to a room the mouse freezes as it hears the activity and detects the change in air movement. It often appears as there just staring at us but in fact it stops moving to hide its presence. After a moment or two it will dart for cover.

Mouse Control Smear Marks

November 14, 2018 by MERSEYPEST 71 Comments

Mice are an extremely determined pest. They are so small that they can fit in a hole that a pen can fit in. Keeping them out of a property can be extremely hard.

Signs to look for in your house for infestation are droppings, smear marks and the mice themselves. The droppings are small like grains of rice and are either dark brown or black. The smear marks are greasy marks where the mouse uses the same path over and over again. They can become extremely obvious over time. These photos are from a grain store in a stables. The mice have been here for many years and in some numbers.

At MerseyPest we specialise in all types of pest control. Call us to speak to an expert.

Dead Mouse Smell

Dead Mouse Smell

Dead Mouse Smell

A business in town phoned to ask if we could identify where a dead mouse was in their premises. They have had a fairly recent infestation which they had dealt with using baits and sticky boards.

On inspection we discovered that they had forgot to remove one of the sticky boards and the mouse was in an advanced stage of decomposition.

Removing the sticky board instantly removed the smell and the staff could get back to business as normal.

Noises from the Roof

November 9, 2015 by MERSEYPEST 79 Comments

pest control liverpool roof

A customer had heard noises from her roof in the night. In the morning she went in to the roof space to investigate herself.

There was nothing obvious but she was concerned about a vent outlet going through the tiles, so she phoned pest control to get an inspection.

When we got there we pulled back all the insulation and found mouse droppings underneath. We baited around the areas that there was mouse activity.

As the customer was concerned about the vent we went on the roof to check to see if there was a possible ingress point through this vent (squirrels are a big problem in her area). We checked the full roof and found no tiles to be loose and no gaps that squirrels could get through.

A follow will be carried out in 2 weeks to see what takes we get from the mice.

Mouse Tamper Proof Boxes

November 18, 2014 by MERSEYPEST 28 Comments

pest control liverpool bait boxes

Pest Control Liverpool.

We are now moving firmly into the rodent season. The colder nights and less food in the environment are bringing mice and rats scavenging indoors.

This is a photo of tamper resistant mouse boxes with a rodenticide bait inserted on a spike inside each box. Each bait has got a different amount of rodent damage on it, some are almost entirely eaten with only a residue left in the box. This amount of bait eaten indicates much more than just one mouse.

Tamper proof boxes are used to protect children and pets from gaining access to the bait.

Field Mice and Breakback Traps

November 17, 2014 by MERSEYPEST 178 Comments

Mice can be treated for in many ways. One method is by using break back traps. They have many advantages.

1.) The dead rodent is removed from the property. Sometimes when baits are used the rodent can die in a hard to reach area and cause unpleasant smells.

2.) The type of mouse can be identified which helps in understanding the infestation.

3.) There is no poison left on site so no risk of accidental poisoning or secondary poisoning. Non target species can either eat the bait directly or eat rodents that have died from the poison.

4.) Foods that the mice are eating in a premise can be used as baits.

5.) Traps can be used without bait when the mice have well used runs between their feeding areas.

This is a photo of a field mouse that has been caught today in a customers house. She specified that she didn’t want any poison on site because both her cats and her dog eats mice. The traps were left down for a few days with a small smear of peanut butter on the trap plates. The traps have been left in till next week to ensure there are no more mice. The next step is for her to proof her house to prevent further mouse ingress.

Smelly House Thanks to Mouse

November 16, 2014 by MERSEYPEST 4 Comments

Pest Control Liverpool.

A customer called me out yesterday for mice in Liverpool. Over the last few weeks she had found mouse droppings in her kitchen and behind the couch. Now she had noticed a funny smell in the bathroom and decided now was the time to call in pest control.

An inspection of the house revelled droppings in the kitchen, lounge, garage, bathroom and roof void. The smell was coming from behind the bath panel. On removal of the panel hundreds of droppings were found but no signs of anything else.

The house had an access point for under the floor boards on the landing. After pulling back the carpet on the landing a mouse hole was found going under the floor boards.

On removal of the boards a mouse nest was found under pipework and a central heating pump. The nest was made of toilet paper dragged in from the bathroom (the pink debris to the side of the pump).

Looking down under the floor boards I could see the cause of the smell. A dead mouse about 3 metres away (difficult to make out on this photo). The dead mouse and nest were removed and replaced with baits to monitor/control any further mice in the house. All other areas were baited also.

Dirty Mice!!!

November 15, 2014 by MERSEYPEST 46 Comments

Pest Control Liverpool.

This photo shows mouse tracks following the line of the mortar between the bricks. This happens when mice habitally use a regular path. The black smear is made up of dirt, grease from the fur and urine. It is an indicator of a long established infestation.

Fascia Strips Let Wasps In

June 20, 2014 by MERSEYPEST Leave a Comment

Pest Control Liverpool, Wirral, Warrington and Chester.

pest control liverpool

A badly fitted bit of fascia stripping has let wasps in. The lower strip breather gaps are to small for a queen wasp to pass through and make a nest. However when it isn’t pushed in properly they can get in. You can see the wasps by the very end gap on the corner (quite hard to make out in the photo). The customer in this instance had blocked the hole with a piece of wood with tacks, gaffered to a 4 metre pole. This didn’t have the desired effect and only made them angry!!
